Teamer is closing on 5 October. Here's what your club should do next

Teamer shuts down for good on Monday 5 October 2026. There is no export tool, so every team that lives in Teamer has to be rebuilt somewhere else, by hand, in the next five weeks. If you run a club with a dozen teams and volunteer managers, that's the real problem — not which app has the nicest calendar.

You have three routes. Pay for a club system for the first time. Take a free-for-now offer that turns into an invoice next spring. Or move to something that stays free for your teams and for your club, and let us do the rebuild for you.

What's happening, in five lines

• The Pitchero Group, which has owned Teamer since 2018, told organisers by email on 5 August 2026 that Teamer "no longer fits our long term strategy" and that it is focusing on Pitchero and PitcheroGPS.

• The platform closes on Monday 5 October 2026. After that date, "team and user data will no longer be accessible."

• All Teamer Premium subscriptions are being cancelled during September 2026, so nobody is billed into October. You don't need to cancel anything yourself.

• New app downloads, registrations, team creations and payment-provider links are being switched off before 5 October. Don't add new teams in Teamer — they won't survive the move anyway.

• There is no export. In Teamer's own words: "there are no export tools to make a team's events and members lists portable to a new system." Everything is viewable until the closure date, and nothing after.

Do this before 5 October

Do it this week, not the week before. Once a volunteer manager loses access to a team list, it's gone.

1. Get every member list out. For each team, copy the players, parents and their contact details out of Teamer into a spreadsheet. One tab per team. Names and one contact per player is enough to rebuild.

2. Note fixtures and training past 5 October. Anything already scheduled beyond the closure date needs to be re-entered wherever you land.

3. Download payment history. If you used Teamer Payments, your treasurer will want the transaction records. Do this before the payment-provider links are removed.

4. Decide at club level, not team by team. If twelve managers each pick their own app, the club ends up with twelve apps and no oversight. Choose once.

5. Tell parents where you're going and when. One message from the club, with the join link, beats twelve different WhatsApp announcements.

That's it. Don't cancel Premium (Teamer is doing it), don't try to migrate messages (they aren't portable anywhere), and don't spend the next five weeks comparing feature tables. Rebuild the lists, pick a home, move.

"We never paid for this." You still won't

Teamer was free for sixteen years. Every option being pushed at you right now assumes you're finally ready to pay: Pitchero's free plan covers a single team and carries third-party ads, and a club with several teams lands on a plan from £38 a month. ClubZap's Teamer offer is six months free, then a paid contract. Spond is free for teams, and it stays that way — but there's no club layer and no help with the rebuild.

Mingle Sport starts free — for teams and for the club — and stays free for as long as you want it to.

Every team runs on Basic, which is free for good: schedule, RSVP and availability, Team Chat, line-ups, scorekeeping, a Match Feed parents can follow live, Leaderboards and Player of the Match. Not a trial, not a free season. A team can run on Basic indefinitely.

The honest version of this comparison: if collecting subs inside your team app is essential, Pitchero, Spond and ClubZap do that and Mingle doesn't. If your Teamer account ran a rugby or netball side, Mingle is football only. For everything else a football club used Teamer for, you can move without opening your wallet.

Who controls your players' data

Most Teamer clubs are youth clubs. That means the member lists you're about to rebuild are largely data about children, and UK GDPR (and EU GDPR in Ireland) applies to how your club handles it. Moving platforms is a good moment to get the structure right, because the old structure was usually an accident.

On Teamer — and on any free team app, Mingle included — a team is created by an individual volunteer's account. The club has no visibility into that team, no say over who administers it, and no way to recover it when the volunteer moves on. The under-12s' parent contacts effectively live with whoever set the team up.

Managed teams change that. The club brings each team under Club Manager: it can see every team, decide who has admin rights, and remove access when a coach leaves. Mingle processes that data on the club's behalf under a data processing agreement, so the responsibilities are written down rather than assumed. For a safeguarding officer or club secretary, that's the difference between "we think Dave has the list" and knowing.

Running a single team, not a club?

Is Teamer shutting down?

Yes. The Pitchero Group informed organisers on 5 August 2026 that Teamer will close on Monday 5 October 2026. Premium subscriptions are being cancelled during September so nobody is billed into October, and after the closure date team and member data will no longer be accessible.

Can I export my data from Teamer?

No. Teamer's shutdown FAQ confirms there are no export tools for member lists or events. Copy your member lists and any fixtures beyond 5 October into a spreadsheet while you still have access.

Can I import my Teamer teams into Mingle Sport?

Is Mingle Sport really free for clubs?

Accounts are private by default, and Mingle follows GDPR. Team members see a player's name, position and photo; only accepted followers see match content and stats. For clubs, Managed teams put the club in control of who administers each team and its member data.
