Can I start a new season for my team?

Can I start a new season for my team?

Yes. Your season is ending or you just want a clean slate for stats and leaderboards — maybe the same squad stays together, maybe a few leave and new players arrive. Both options below give you a team with zero goals, assists, and match history to start the season; the difference is how the old team is handled:

  • Create a brand-new team — no link to the old team; you invite everyone again from scratch using a new team code.

  • Transfer your team to a new season — the recommended path: the old team and its data stay intact (and viewable), and the new team inherits the basics (name, members you select, settings) so you don't start from a blank screen.

By default, a Mingle Sport team doesn't have a season — you can use the same team indefinitely and all stats just keep accumulating. Seasons only kick in when *you* decide it's time to start one, either by creating a new team or by transferring.

Season transfers need admin rights on the team. See How do I set permissions for my team members?.

Do official club teams get seasons automatically?

If your team is part of an official club (the team got the official club logo attached automatically), it's linked to a season and follows the official calendar. You don't need to worry about timing — we'll notify you when the new season starts, and you can create a new team for that season and decide which players come along.

In some countries and leagues (for example KNVB in the Netherlands), season transfer is only available once the official new season is live. If the option isn't showing up yet, that's why.

How does a season transfer work?

Season transfers are done in Homebase, our desktop web app. The data of your current team is saved and the old team remains available — so nothing gets lost. The transfer runs as a four-step wizard: Team Info → Members → Opponents → Inform.

To start a season transfer:

  1. Sign in to homebase.mingle.sport and open your team.

  2. Go to Settings and start the season transfer.

  3. Team Info — edit the new team's name, abbreviation, and season. Your team characteristics (gender, performance level, age group, and team banner) are pre-filled from the current team, so you don't have to re-enter them — change anything that's different for next season.

  4. Members — add or remove members depending on who's playing next season, and invite anyone new.

  5. Opponents — your current opponents are listed and copied across by default. Deselect any you don't need, or tap the pencil icon to edit one before copying.

  6. Inform — review what happens to your current team (archiving and Team Boost), then confirm.

Note: existing members who you add to the new team will be notified that they've been moved across.

Do my opponents transfer to the new team?

Yes, if you want them to. The Opponents step lists all the opponents from your current team, selected by default. Any you keep selected are copied to the new team when you confirm, so you don't have to re-create them one by one.

Each opponent is copied as a new, independent entry — editing it on the new team won't change the original. You can deselect opponents you no longer play, and use the pencil icon to edit an opponent's name, abbreviation, logo, organisation, or address before it's copied.

What happens to planned events during a season transfer?

Training series and future matches on the old team are not deleted. A recurring training series will automatically stop repeating at the end of the season, but any individual matches or sessions you already scheduled stay where they are. You can also plan new events on the old team before and after transferring.

Why can't I transfer unclaimed player profiles?

Unclaimed player profiles don't move across in a season transfer. The player profile — and any stats on it — stays on the old team for history, but won't appear on the new team. In the new team you'll need to invite the user or create a fresh player profile.

If a team member wants to keep their career data linked to one Mingle Sport account, the best flow is: claim the player profile on the old team first, then do the season transfer. See How do I claim my player profile?.

What happens to Team Boost when I transfer to a new season?

If your team has a Team Boost, what you see at the final Inform step depends on whether you own the boost token:

  • If you own the boost — tick Transfer Team Boost to new team to move it across when you confirm. The old team levels down and the new team levels up. Leave it unticked to keep the boost on the old team.

  • If someone else owns the boost — you'll see a note explaining the boost is owned by another member, asking you to have them reassign it from their Boost Wallet (Profile → Team Boosts).

  • If the team isn't boosted — there's no boost option, and the new team starts at Level 0.

You can also reassign a Team Boost at any time from your Boost Wallet:

  1. Open your profile and go to Team Boosts.

  2. Tap the Team Boost that's currently assigned.

  3. Select the new team.

  4. Tap Assign Team Boost.

Why would I archive my team instead of deleting it?

Archiving keeps all the data and chats of the old team — players, matches, stats, media — but hides the team from everyday views. Archived teams don't show up when members create new matches or training sessions, so nothing accidentally lands on the wrong team.

Archiving is especially useful when:

  • You have several teams in your account and want to clean up the switcher.

  • Your new team has the same name as the old one, and you want to make sure people pick the right one.

  • You've transferred to a new season and want the old team out of the way without losing its history.

If you permanently don't need the old team's data, you can also delete it — but that removes everything irreversibly. See How do I leave a team? for the delete flow.

How do I archive or unarchive a team?

Archiving and unarchiving are both done on Homebase:

  1. Sign in to homebase.mingle.sport and open the team you want to archive or unarchive.

  2. Go to Settings.

  3. Select Archive team (or Unarchive team if it's already archived).

Archived teams are still fully accessible — you'll find them via the team switcher on the team page in the app or in Homebase, marked with an archived status.
